Current Mood: Obsessed

I am obsessed. I have been watching videos and Pinning and reading articles like a mad woman. I can barely focus on anything else. If I am fired from my job it will be for watching AT videos in my office while I am working. I add "while I am working" because I am still doing my work. But technically, I shouldn't have my phone open on YouTube with AT videos going.

One of my ideas is for each of the boys to join me for a section. I would love for Sam to join me and maybe he will on a section that is not strenuous. I am resolved that it is not likely. So, I told each of the boys individually, of my intention. Usually when I have something to tell them, I send a group text. But this time, I wanted to get individual responses.

I told #3 first. #3 is a 17 year old junior in high school. He smirked at me. I told him that I wanted him to join me for a section and he said he would. Because he's a good boy to his mama.

Next I texted #1. His response was that this time next year, he'd be doing pretty much that. He commissions in the Army in May. As an infantry officer he has almost of year of schools which involve a lot of "outdoor activities." I told him that I wanted him to join me on a section and he said he would if he has an opportunity because he's an obedient young man.

Lastly, #2 called me and I took that opportunity to tell him. Here is how that conversation went:
Me: Hey, I'm going to hike the AT when Dad retires.
#2: I'm in! (and in the background, his roommate says, "Me too!)
Me: Well, I wasn't thinking you'd do the whole thing with me, but I'd like you to join me for a section.
#2: Ok!

I am planning what is called a Supported Hike. I think some people may feel like it's cheating. And in response I say, "You hike your hike and I'll hike mine." The plan is for me to hike and at intervals where hikers usually go into town, I will meet Sam who will have a Class A RV with his motorcycle in tow. We'll stay in the RV and he'll help me get resupplied with food and fresh clothing. This is the rough idea. I am no where near the logistical planning stage.

What I am doing to prepare right now is to begin hiking. I have been on hikes before, I have even packed a 30 lb pack and hiked up a mountain. I thought I would die. But I did not. And at the top of the mountain I remember feeling like the most accomplished person in the world. I was scared and in pain and I did it anyway.

Here we are on the approach to the trail up Guadalupe Peak. I think I look a little naive.
